New Eternal Set: Shadows of The Spire Announced

It’s only been a month since Whispers of the Throne, but today Scarlatch revealed the first card from the next set: Shadows of the Spire. The card is named Wrath of Caiphus. It is a legendary 7 cost factionless spell with the following text.
Each player discards their hand, then draws 7 cards. You may pay 2 to swap Wrath of Caiphus with a random power card from your deck.
The first effect is incredibly powerful and has only been on 2 cards before, both of which had harsh faction requirements. The second effect is very similar to the MTG mechanic land-cycling. Being impactful both early and late has been a recipe for success in the past so I expect to see this card being widely played.
We don’t know much about the new set yet, but some educated guesses can be made from recent lore and the art from the spoiler. The setting will once again be Argenport and the focus will be on Vara and Caiphus once again reuniting. The “plot twist” will likely be that Caiphus is changed from the Shadowlands or that Eremot is not dead and is actually controlling him. The set icon looks suspiciously similar to the corrupted animation in game. Speaking of visuals, the art for Wrath of Caiphus and the background of the spoiler are both amazing - a good sign for the card art in this set.
We don’t have a release date or formal announcement yet, but historically speaking Direwolf Digital has done big announcements during tournament broadcasts. Expect more new about Shadows of the Spire during this weekend’s ECQ tournament.
